National Canadian Film Day at the Sarnia Library
Sarnia, ON –Lambton County Library invites residents to watch a great Canadian film and take part in the largest film festival in the world on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, as part of Reel Canada's National Canadian Film Day 2018.
The following movies will be shown in the Sarnia Library Theatre as part of the annual one-day celebration of Canadian cinema which this year, honours women in film:
2:00 p.m. - "I've Heard the Mermaids Singing" written and directed by Sarnia's own Patricia Rozema. The movie won the Prix de la Jeunesse at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival. It follows the life of Polly, a shy, young photographer with an avid imagination but limited social life and job skills in her new job at an art gallery. The movie runs 82 minutes and is rated PG due to mature themes.
7:00 p.m. - "The Breadwinner" Directed by Nora Twomey and written by Anita Doron based on a story by Deborah Ellis. It was a 2018 Oscar finalist for best animated movie. In it, a headstrong young girl in Afghanistan disguises herself as a boy in order to provide for her family. The movie runs 93 minutes, is rated PG and is not recommended for young children.
