What is Lambton County Library doing to make library curbside pickup safe? |
Lambton County Library is following a number of guidelines established by the Province of Ontario, including the following:
- All returned material will be placed in quarantine for 72 hours before being shelved or used to fill a hold for the next patron on the reservation list. This decision was made following the announcement of important research findings from the Archives Association of Ontario concerning their REALM (REopening Archives, Libraries and Museums) Project. Researchers have conducted a study to provide information on how long some commonly circulated library and archival materials would need to be quarantined prior to being returned to public circulation. Testing was conducted by applying the virulent SARS-CoV-2 virus (the virus that causes COVID-19) on five materials held at standard room temperature and humidity conditions. The materials tested included hard cover books, softback book covers, plain paper pages inside a closed book, plastic book coverings, and a DVD case. The test results show the virus was not detectable on any of the materials after three days of quarantine.
- Lambton County Library requires all of its employees who deliver library curbside pickup service to wear the following personal protective equipment (PPE) in an effort to prevent the spread of COVID-19: masks and gloves. Employees have been trained on the appropriate use of this PPE.
- Lambton County Library has trained all of its employees on how the COVID-19 virus is transmitted, and steps they can take to limit the spread of COVID-19 including self-monitoring for symptoms, staying home when ill, immediately self-isolating at work if symptoms appear during the work day, practicing good and regular hand hygiene and cough and sneeze etiquette, appropriately wearing PPE, and physical distancing while at work. Lambton County Library has implemented enhanced cleaning and disinfecting practices at all of its locations where curbside pickup service is offered.
