Library of Things

 A Lambton County Library card offers a range of specialized material and collections.

Active Living Lifestyle Collections

This collection includes:

  • Snowshoes:  Available for a 7-day loan period. Adult and kids sizes available. Maximum 4 pairs available to loan per library card. Liability waiver is required.
  • Pedometers: Available for a 21-day loan period.  Sets of 16 are also available - Great for walking groups and classrooms.
  • GPS (Geocaching): 21-day loan period.  Includes a map of local trails.
  • Walking Pole Kits: 7-day loan period, no renewals. Includes instructional card. Liability waiver is required.
  • Binoculars: Available for a 7-day loan period, no renewals. 
  • Fishing Pole Kits: Available for a 7-day loan period, no renewals. Each kit contains one fishing pole and one tackle box, with instructions for pole assembly inside. Liability waiver is required. Visit ontario.ca for fishing rules and regulations in Ontario.

This collection was funded in part by  Lambton Public Health and Healthy Kids Community Challenge partners.  A library card is required to borrow these items. 

Book Club Kits

Book Club kits are available for an 8-week loan period and can be reserved online. Each set contains ten copies of the book.

Braille Books

Lambton County Library maintains a small braille collection of children's books.  Some braille books (adult and children's) are also available through Inter-Library Loan.

Culture Pass

Borrow a Culture Pass from any Lambton County Library location  for seven days to gain free admission for up to one family (maximum of two adults and four school-aged children) to the following Lambton County locations:

  • Forest-Lambton Museum
  • Gallery in the Grove
  • Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery
  • Lambton County Archives
  • Lambton Heritage Museum
  • Moore Museum
  • Oil Museum of Canada
  • Petrolia Discovery
  • Plympton-Wyoming Museum
  • Sombra Museum

eReaders

eReader kits are available to borrow for free with your library card. These devices connect to Wi-Fi, so you do not need a computer to access materials.

The eReader kits include:

  • Kobo Aura One eReader
  • A standard cover
  • USB cable
  • Instruction cards.

ESL Language Learning Materials

Study material for English language learning, including proficiency tests such as TOEFL and TOEIC (beginner to advanced levels) are available. They are located at the Sarnia Library.

Huron Shores Area Transit Smart Card Library Pass

The Smart Card Library Pass allows borrowers to enjoy unlimited travel on Huron Shores Area Transit for up to five days. This convenient pass can be borrowed by any Lambton County Library cardholder, but is only available to pick up from the following library locations: Sarnia, Arkona, Forest, Grand Bend, Port Franks, and Thedford.

Reserve Smart Card Library Pass

Huron Shores Area Transit is an inter-community public transit service linking Lambton Shores, South Huron, North Middlesex, Bluewater and Kettle & Stony Point First Nation with each other and Sarnia, London, Goderich and Strathroy. Information about routes, schedules and fares is available on their website.

Lambton Indie Authors

The Lambton Indie Authors collection is a circulating collection showcasing self-published, independent, and small press books by local authors, for readers of all ages. The collection is located on the first floor of the Sarnia Library, but can be reserved by cardholders through any of the 25 Lambton County Library locations or the online catalogue.

Large Print Books

Lambton County Library has a collection of large print books, which any patron may borrow.

Ontario Parks Passes

This Ontario Parks pass provides borrowers with unlimited daily vehicle entry for one vehicle plus all its passengers at any Ontario Provincial Park. The passes are valid between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025 and may be borrowed for a period of seven days.

Passes include a vehicle permit and a Parks Guide (while supplies last). The vehicle permit must be returned after the lending period but the borrower may keep the Guide.

Lambton County Library received the passes from Ontario Parks as a part of its library day-use vehicle lending program that encourages Ontario residents to spend time outdoors and take advantage of the benefits being outdoors provides to mental and physical health.

Projector Kits

Projector Kits are available to borrow for a seven day loan period, allowing you to project images up to 300 inches, both day and night, and enables you to connect your laptop, gaming console, or streaming device with the HDMI port.

Multilingual Materials

Books are available in French and other languages such as Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hindi, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Urdu. Children's books, large print books, CDs, Videos and DVDs are also available in some of these languages. 

Radon Initial Screening Kits

Radon is a colourless, odourless radioactive gas and is the number one cause of lung cancer in non-smokers in Canada. It occurs naturally in soil and rocks and enters the home from the ground. Testing is the only way to detect it. Radon Initial Screening Kits can be borrowed for up to 21 days. Radon Initial Screening Kits can provide rapid results, helping identify potential radon issues or monitor the effectiveness of mitigation measures. Health Canada recommends long-term radon tests (minimum 91 days) for reliable results, regardless of the result of initial screening tests.

Seed Library

The Seed Library is a free, community-driven seed borrowing system that provides an opportunity for people to grow their own healthy food. Library card holders borrow vegetable and herb seeds that they plant, grow, and harvest while letting a few plants mature and return to seed.

Sport Kits

Sports Kits contain the basic equipment needed to play a specific sport.

  • Basketball: Includes a basketball and pump.
  • Pickleball: Includes two paddles and balls.
  • Baseball: Includes a five-piece base set, bat, and ball.
  • Tennis (Adult): Includes two adult racquets and three tennis balls. 
  • Tennis (Junior): Includes two junior racquets and three tennis balls.
  • Soccer: Includes a ball, cones, and pump.

Patrons can enjoy a seven-day lending period for each Sports Kit. This timeframe allows them to explore a new sport at their own pace, practice their skills, or enjoy a friendly game.

Telescope kits offer opportunities to spark curiosity and enhance STEAM learning. Available for a seven-day lending period these kits include:

Tool kits

Tool kits are available to borrow for basic household and automotive repairs. Each kit contains:

  • 9 piece ratchet set (1/4" drive ratchet and 8 sockets)
  • 35 piece screwdriver set (screwdriver handle holder, Phillips screwdriver, slotted screwdriver and 32 screwdriver bits)
  • 16 piece hex key set
  • level
  • adjustable wrench
  • tongue and groove pliers
  • long nose pliers
  • hammer
  • vice grip
  • tape measure
  • inventory chart

The kit comes in a convenient carrying case and is available for a seven day loan period.

 VOX™ Books

VOX™ Books are printed children's books for ages 2 - 7 that provide full professional audio narration using a unique audio reader attached to the book. VOX™ Books help readers improve reading comprehension and reading accuracy. Inside of the front cover is a permanently attached 5mm VOX™ Reader device which reads aloud at every flip of a page. Children simply push a button to listen while they read.

Wi-Fi Hotspots

Wi-Fi Hotspots are available to borrow for a 14-day period, giving patrons ample time to utilize this valuable resource for work, study, or leisure.

While providing unlimited internet access please note that the hotspots are subject to content restrictions in compliance with vendor policies. These restrictions include streaming services like Netflix, Prime, and Disney+, as well as gambling and adult content sites. Wi-Fi Hotspots will deactivate between the hours of 2 a.m. and 7 a.m. 

Yoto Players

Yoto Players are available to borrow for up to 21 days, offering young patrons an engaging alternative to screen-based entertainment. Yoto is a screen-free audio platform that lets kids explore over 1,000 stories, music, activities, sound effects, radio, podcasts, and more. Each kit includes a portable audio device and a selection of themed content cards.
