Teen Advisory Council

Make Your Voice Heard at the Library

The Teen Advisory Council (TAC) gives teens a chance to help shape the future of Lambton County Library. Members share ideas, plan events, recommend books and programs, and help make the library a welcoming space for teens across Lambton County.

Whether you’re interested in social media, books, events, or community leadership, there’s a role for you on the Teen Advisory Council.

What does the Teen Advisory Council do?

Members of the Teen Advisory Council:

  • Share ideas and feedback about teen library services
  • Help plan programs and special events
  • Recommend books, movies, games, and online resources
  • Assist with promotions and outreach
  • Connect the library with teen voices in local schools and communities
  • Meet monthly with library staff and fellow teen advisors

All Teen Advisory Council members will:

  • Attend monthly meetings
  • Work collaboratively with peers and library staff
  • Help organize one special event for teens during the year

Who can apply?

The Teen Advisory Council is open to teens interested in helping shape library services and programs for young people in Lambton County.

Advisory Roles

Communications Advisor

Help the library connect with teens in meaningful and creative ways.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and recommendations to Lambton County Library’s communications team about communication tools and tactics that are relevant to a teen audience.
  • Consult with teenaged peers about how they access and consume information and share those findings with the Library’s communications team.
  • Inform Lambton County Library’s communication team of current social media trends from a variety of local teen demographics.
  • Assist in the creation of promotional material by participating in activities such as:
    • Being photographed with library products or using library services for promotional purposes.
    • Being filmed with library products or using library services or promoting library services.
    • Recruiting other teenaged peers to participate in filming or photography projects for the library’s promotional purposes.
    • Writing reviews of library items or services for use in print or electronic promotional materials.
  • Act as a member of the library’s Teen Advisory Council, which meets monthly to provide advice and guidance concerning library services for teens.
  • Organize one special event for a teen audience in conjunction with peers forming the Teen Advisory Council with support and oversight from Lambton County Library staff.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Teen Advisory Council.

  • Like photography, video, writing, or marketing
  • Want to help promote library programs and services

 

Program Advisor

Help shape exciting and engaging library programs for teens.

Responsibilities
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Public Services Coordinator – Youth concerning the development and implementation of library programs.
  • Recommend activities or guest speakers of interest to teen audiences.
  • Consult with teenaged peers and provide recommendations for book prizes or prize draw items that appeal to teenagers.
  • Recommend activities for activity badges in annual program challenges.
  • Assist in writing program descriptions for teen programs that would encourage increased teen participation in library programs.
  • Act as a member of the library’s Teen Advisory Council, which meets monthly to provide advice and guidance concerning library services for teens.
  • Organize one special event for a teen audience in conjunction with peers forming the Teen Advisory Council with support and oversight from Lambton County Library staff.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Teen Advisory Council.

  • Want to help make library programs more fun and relevant

Selections and Services Advisor

Help influence the library’s collections and resources for teens.

Responsibilities 
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Public Services Coordinator – Collections concerning print, electronic and specialized items for the library’s collection that are of interest to a teen audience.
  • Provide advice and recommendations to the Public Services Coordinator – Collections about online resources such as databases that are of interest to a teen audience.
  • Consult with teenaged peers about current interests and trends related to reading materials in a variety of genres, from a variety of demographics and share those findings with the Public Services Coordinator, Collections.
  • Consult with teenaged peers about their current needs for research and educational support programs or resources and share those findings with the Public Services Coordinator, Collections.
  • Act as a member of the library’s Teen Advisory Council, which meets monthly to provide advice and guidance concerning library services for teens.
  • Organize one special event for a teen audience in conjunction with peers forming the Teen Advisory Council with support and oversight from Lambton County Library staff.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Teen Advisory Council.

  • Enjoy discovering new trends and resources
  • Want to help build a better teen collection

 

Community Library Advisor

Help connect teens in schools and communities with the library.

Responsibilities
  • Raise the profile of Lambton County Library in the student’s school and community.
  • Share information with teenaged peers about the library’s programs, special events and services.
  • Assist Community Librarians in creating Teen Advisory Groups in the student’s high school that meet monthly.
  • Recruit teenaged peers to the Teen Advisory Group that meets in schools, along with school staff support for the Group.
  • Share promotional materials created by Lambton County Library’s communications team on bulletin boards at the school or within the community, and / or on social media platforms.
  • Act as a member of the library’s Teen Advisory Council, which meets monthly to provide advice and guidance concerning library services for teens.
  • Organize one special event for a teen audience in conjunction with peers forming the Teen Advisory Council with support and oversight from Lambton County Library staff.
  • Attend monthly meetings of the Teen Advisory Council.

  • Are active in school groups or clubs
