Lambton County Library celebrating International Women’s Day this March

Email icon Back to Search

Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library is planning several events celebrating International Women’s Day throughout the month of March.

“International Women’s Day is celebrated annually by Lambton County Library and this year’s events will celebrate and encourage patrons to learn about the women of Lambton County, both past and present, who have helped lead and shape our community,” said Andrea Basra, Public Services Coordinator – Adult Programs and Outreach with Lambton County Library.

A special feature this year, the Famous 5 Maquette will be showcased at the Sarnia Library Theatre during its Canada-wide tour. The Famous 5 Maquette sculpture is a two-foot-tall replica in bronze of the original Famous 5 Foundation's Women are Persons! Monuments in Olympic Plaza in Calgary and in front of the Senate of Canada in Ottawa. The prominent Canadian suffragists depicted include Nellie McClung, Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney, Irene Parlby, and Henrietta (Muir) Edwards, five Albertan women who blazed the trail for women's rights in Canada in the 1920s.

The Famous 5 Maquette will only be on display during three International Women’s Day events at the Sarnia Library Theatre and for a 15-minute period before and after each of those same events on March 1, 6, and 15.

Registration is required to attend the International Women’s Day events. Visit the library’s program calendar at lclibrary.ca to learn more and to register. Programs include:
