Participate in One Book Lambton Programming this Spring

Wyoming, ON – Lambton County is coming together to celebrate Canadian authors and their storytelling with One Book Lambton. Throughout the month of March, the library will host a variety of programs surrounding themes from the 2020 – 2021 title selection, Every Step She Takes by K.L. Armstrong.

Programs include:

One Book Lambton – Exploring Online Freedom of Expression
Wednesday, March 10, 2021 – 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Hear lawyer, Cara Zwibel with the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, speak about legal issues around online expression. Cara will discuss the law of defamation, how technical companies are exploring new ways to regulate and moderate online content, and new government plans that will address this issue. At the end of the presentation there will be a discussion period with an opportunity to ask Cara questions.

Cookbook Club – Buon Apetito!
Thursday, March 18, 2021 – 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Connect from the comfort of your own home and swap mouth-watering recipes and share cooking tips and tricks. Review a cookbook of your choice and select a recipe or recipes to try, then discuss the delicious results as a group.

In celebration of the 2021 One Book Lambton selection, Every Step She Takes, bring along your new, tried-and-true, or (not-so) secret family Italian recipes.

One Book Lambton – Creative Writing Workshop with Kelley Armstrong
Saturday, March 20, 2021 – 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Do you want to take your creative writing skills to the next level? Award winning author and author of this year’s One Book Lambton selection, Every Step She Takes, Kelley Armstrong will lead an online creative writing workshop on Saturday, March 20. Register at Lambton County Library’s online calendar for an opportunity to get writing advice from a #1 New York Times bestselling author.

One Book Lambton – Knowledge is Power: Sexual Assault
Wednesday, March 24, 2021 – 6:30 – 7-30 p.m.

Explore healthy relationships and consent with Trish Vanoosterom, Public Education Coordinator at the Sexual Assault Survivor’s Centre of Sarnia-Lambton.  This session will include a 45 minute discussion about the definition of sexual assault; exploring its effects on survivors, friends and family, and society; why consent is important; and what resources are available in Lambton County for sexual assault survivors and their families. The session will end with a 15 minutes question and answer period.

One Book Lambton – Information Literacy – How to Spot Fake News
Thursday, March 25, 2021 – 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.; or
Wednesday, March 31, 2021 – 1:00 – 2:00 p.m.

In today’s age of mass communication, information overload and false or misleading material presented as news, becoming a confident fact-checker and informed digital citizen is more important than ever. Join Lambton County Library staff to learn about information literacy: what is it and why it is important, as well as tips and tricks to spot misinformation and misleading ‘buzzworthy’ media headlines. This interactive session will wrap-up by discussing real-life examples to determine how to spot fake news and distinguish fact from fiction.

 Zoom Book Discussions

Tuesday, March 23, 2021 – 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Tuesday, March 30, 2021 – 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Join an open discussion on Zoom about Every Step She Takes and its themes and message.

 In addition, every Tuesday and Thursday throughout March, the One Book Lambton Facebook group will post two discussion questions relating to the themes and messages throughout Every Step She Takes.

On Friday, April 9 from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., One Book Lambton 2020-2021 will culminate with a Facebook Live Author Talk with K.L. Armstrong, New York Times bestselling author and the author Every Step She Takes. K.L. Armstrong will participate in an interactive conversation exploring the book and its themes. The event will end with an open question and answer period that anyone can participate in through Facebook. Register at onebooklambton.ca/programs/ to receive a link to the event or follow @LCLibrary on Facebook. A Facebook account is not necessary to participate.
