Lambton County Library offers new Memory Care Kits to support cognitive health
Wyoming, ON – Lambton County Library now offers Memory Care Kits for those living with dementia or those in need of cognitive support. These specialized kits are designed to encourage meaningful engagement, cognitive stimulation, and social connection through books, games, and puzzles.
The collection includes six Memory Care Kits, each featuring activities designed to support individuals in the early, mid, and late stages of cognitive decline.
According to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, more than half a million Canadians are currently living with dementia, and one in five Canadians has experience caring for someone with the condition.
“The Alzheimer Society of Sarnia-Lambton provided guidance on the types of materials to include in the kits to promote reminiscing, manipulating, organizing, and sorting” said Kevin Coates, Public Services Coordinator, Collections. “The Memory Care Kits are intended to promote cognitive engagement and connection, whether they are being used by individuals living with dementia or by caregivers seeking meaningful activities to share together.”
The Memory Care Kits can be reserved through the library’s online catalogue at lclibrary.ca, using the Iguana app on a mobile device, or by visiting or calling any Lambton County Library location.
Library cards are free for anyone who lives, works, studies, owns property in Lambton County, or is a resident of a First Nations community in Ontario. For more information on how to become a Lambton County Library cardholder, visit lclibrary.ca/apply.
